From Academy Award–winning actress Lupita Nyong’o comes a powerful, moving picture book about colorism, self-esteem, and learning that true beauty comes from within.

Sulwe has skin the color of midnight. She is darker than everyone in her family. She is darker than anyone in her school. Sulwe just wants to be beautiful and bright, like her mother and sister. Then a magical journey in the night sky opens her eyes and changes everything.

In this stunning debut picture book, actress Lupita Nyong’o creates a whimsical and heartwarming story to inspire children to see their own unique beauty.

Where was this book when I was growing up. I enjoy Lupita the actress and now I love Lupita the author. What a very important book. The graphics are amazing. I kept going back to look at the beautiful images. But the content of this story was so good. It has a very unique story to help with self-esteem particuliarly for children of color. This book is a great resource in a country that doesn’t often celebrate dark skin. I read this in ebook format but will be purchasing the book for my personal collection and recommending it often!
